How to Incorporate Your Mother’s Wedding Dress

Nowadays, brides can somehow be resourceful. Many decide to create a dress from their mother’s wedding dress to create a seemingly timeless piece and make an outfit of their own. However, creating a unique and modern garment from a wedding dress that isn’t able to stand the test of time might be wishful —- from its yellowish stains and its old design, and your mother’s body type compared to yours, wearing it to your wedding as-is will never be a good idea.

Hence, it might be the best idea to repurpose it. If by chance you cannot have it as your wedding dress, might as well make it into something bolder, nicer, and even more stylish. Having some snips will never hurt; you can still pass the tradition and create a piece that your mother will definitely appreciate.

Alter Your Mother’s Wedding Dress

If the dress does not fit or in a case where it looks off or does just not feel right, you can have a few cuts on the gown and make it into a dress.

Making a dress out of a gown is always a good idea. You can have a few cuts until above your knee, making a dress that looks sexier and comfortable. If the wedding dress has some sleeves, you may also want to cut them and sew them into a tube. Trust us, it will look bolder and vintage-y once the dress is done.

You may use the dress during your bridal shower, or on your creative dance at your reception. You may even want to use it on your prenup shoot to make the wedding dress present on your wedding book!

Clutch or make a Purse

Another way to create something beautiful out of your mother’s wedding dress is to repurpose it. Instead of making it into something wearable, you may want to think outside of the box and make a purse out of the details of the dress.

Wedding dresses usually have embroidered details with them. You can get some embroidery from the dress, stitch it into a wonderful clutch or purse, and bring the beauty of the dress into your hand. This is also a great way to make use of the patterns from your mom’s wedding dress, still getting the gown intact while having another valuable purpose out of its little details.

Ring Pillow

Your wedding cannot be complete without a wedding pillow where you can secure your rings. You can still incorporate your mother’s wedding dress and make a ring pillow out of the wedding fabrics. This entails getting a few details from the dress, stitching it into the pillow, where your rings could set as you say your wedding vows.

Veil

As you enter the wedding area, your wedding veil is as important as your wedding dress. You may want to get some fabrics out of your mother’s wedding dress and give it some touch-ups with some pearls and patterns. You may use your mother’s veil for this, and snip the embroidery in a scattered manner. You’ll be amazed how your mother can see herself at her wedding again where you’ll also feel like being your mom on her most special day.

Bouquet wrap

If your mother’s wedding dress has extra fabrics on them, why not use them for your bouquet wrap? You can wrap around cuts of fabrics from your mom’s wedding dress, and wrap them around your bouquet as you walk down the wedding aisle.

Tutu for your Flower Girl

You can either use your mother’s dress for your own or make other people use them too. While the dress might be wrinkled already, you can remake it into a Tutu dress for your flower girl. You might even want to make it into a small gown just like your mother’s wedding dress!

Then you’re done. Wishing you luck on your wedding day!
