Spice World Hot Pot Sydney Review
I’m originally from Melbourne but whenever I’m in Sydney I always go out of my way to go to Spice World Hot Pot. The food is great and it’s a lot of fun cooking you’re own food. We have plenty of Hot Pot places in Melbourne but the quirky dishes at this place and the sauce station make this place stand above the rest. Where else can you get a barbie dressed in meat or a Hello Kitty made entirely of stock and spices?
Just a warning about the Hello Kitty Stock Cube. It’s extremely spicy. But very good if you love spice. Make sure you also get a savoury broth fan if you’re with anyone that isn’t a fan of spicy food
We had 2 broths, 1 metre of Lamb, pork belly, a vegetable platter. noodles and the barbie dressed in meat shared between 3 adults and 1 toddler. We paid around $150 including drinks so that’s around $50 per adult. Which is pretty good for a nice meal in the heart of Sydney.
The Hello Kitty looks nice but she had some bite. The Hello Kitty Broth was spicy, and we purchased the mild broth. It looks good on Instagram but It can pack a punch so make sure you really like spicy food or also get a savoury broth to go along with it in case you can’t handle it. Hot Pot meats aren’t usually seasoned so it’s good to have something along with it. Spice World has a large sauce station in the centre of the restaurant. Some things you might find in the sauce station include:
- Sesame Oil
- Garlic
- Chilli
- Coriander
- Peanut sauce
- Soy Sauce
- Chilli Oil…and many, many, more condiments and toppings.
Spice World Hot Pot Tips
- If you don’t know how to use chopsticks try to learn before you go. It’s very hard to cook meat if you are unable to use chopsticks efficiently.
- Don’t overcook your meat or it’ll be chewy. Keep an eye on your food and take it out when it looks done. I usually cook thin slices of meat for around 10-15 seconds in the broth and wrap it in lettuce and top it with toppings but you can do whatever you like.
- Don’t skip the sauce station, it’s free and you can choose as many toppings as you like.
- Book beforehand. This place gets busy.
- Sanitize your chopsticks in the broth before picking up cooked food. You’ll be touching raw meat with your chopsticks so to avoid cross-contamination make sure you boil them in the broth before you eat with them.
